An early start was dictated by the need to arrive in Wells in a precise window of 2 hours before HW. We left at 5 am as the lock opened and our first encounter just outside was with Comet Ace who called us up on the VHF to ask us to move out of his way. We took the safe option and bore away and did a 360 to come in behind it.
A wonderful F4 wind from the southwest had us flying to Wells past wind farms and over sand banks and consequently for the last hour we had to reduce sail in order to slow up. We arrived at our west cardinal mark at the head of the river as instructed exactly on time and were picked up by the harbour master who guided us in.
Dear friends Penny and Theo, followed by Adam, were on the dock to greet us armed with a very welcome bottle of Bolly.
Brilliant achievement and delighted the engine work has proved a success. Don’t miss the Deben or Walton Backwaters ( Secret Waters) Twizzle creek and the Titchmarsh marina are a delight and go in the Pony to meet Stephen Henderson ( the king of wooden fish and bird sculptures.
