Decided to stop for a bit on our trip to explore Stromness and the Orkneys. We booked into the Ferry Inn at Stromness for two nights and explored the town.

And then took a taxi with Billy the local taxi driver, to see the puffins (found one) and the seals (found lots beached) and sea birds (found fulmars, oystercatchers, guillemots).

The Orkneys have a vast number of amazing pre-historic sites - we visited Skara Brae, Stones of Stenness and the Ring of Brodgar in a whistle-stop morning.

The Orkneys were clearly the place to be in 3500 BC!

The early medieval cathedral of St Magnus in Kirkwall was also pretty awesome

The Ferry Inn at Stromness was the only place open and we went there for several meals gradually eating our way through their menu. Scallops, langoustine and black pudding with Highland Park whisky - yum.
